Having a child is one of life’s most precious moments! A newborn brings so much love and joy to a family, and, as parents, it’s important to cherish this special season of life with the newest member of your family. One of the best ways to remember these once-in-a-lifetime moments of your little one is to capture them with professional newborn photography.
At Natural Expressions Photography, we specialize in both maternity and newborn photography, capturing some of our client’s most cherished moments in life. While maternity photography can be a little more flexible, newborn photography takes some planning and preparation! So, without further ado, we would like to share a few tips to help you ensure you are prepared for a newborn photography session.

Newborn photography is typically done within the first seven to 10 days of a baby’s birth. While it can be difficult to set up a session when you don’t exactly know you will have your baby, you can always send a newborn photographer an inquiry, giving them an idea of when you think would be a good time for a session. Trying to find a photographer after you have your baby can cause you unnecessary stress, so it’s best to do it beforehand!

One of the best things about newborn photography is being able to dress your little one up in the cutest outfits! You likely will have the option to dress them in a few different outfits, so it’s important that you have an idea of what you want and whether or not you’ll need to buy it. Many parents will wrap their newborn in swaddles, dress them in lace dresses or rompers, or even cute animal outfittings.

An easy way to personalize your little one’s newborn photos is to bring a special memento to the session. This can be anything, from the bow you wore when you were a baby to a special stuffed animal, and will help create a memorable one-of-a-kind portrait.
